EID Interface Options in the CattleMax Software

The CattleMax cattle software offers a variety of options for working with Allflex EID readers and tags.

Downloading the EID numbers directly into CattleMax: This is an ideal method if you want a quick and easy way to get the EID numbers into CattleMax. On the Allflex website, there is an option to "Find EID Numbers". Following this link will enable you to easily generate a spreadsheet of the EID numbers you purchased.

  • Already have cattle records entered and want to add in EID numbers?: You can download the spreadsheet of EID numbers and choose which animal record to link with each EID number. While you'll need to manually choose which animal the EID belongs to, you won't need to type in the EID number!
  • Adding in visual and EID numbers at the same (new cattle records into the software)? Ideally you will have purchased Matched Pair tags - this will make the process so much easier. The Allflex EID spreadsheet for matched pairs includes a column for the visual ID - CattleMax can create new cattle records based on the visual and EID numbers.

Real-time connection to an EID reader: Are you working with your cattle EIDs at the chute or pens and have CattleMax on a computer there? If so, you can connect the EID reader to the computer, and CattleMax can read in each scanned EID tag. This sure is better than typing in the 15 digit EID number for every animal!

Connecting the reader and computer is a good option if you want to immediately view the record after an animal's EID is scanned, or if you are adding visual ID tags that are not matched pairs. (Matched pairs are visual tag and EID tag combinations where the EID number is also printed onto the visual tag).

Ways you can work with your records in CattleMax and the EID reader real-time include:

  • Adding a new cattle record with the scanned EID number
  • Adding the scanned EID number to an existing animal record
  • Viewing the record of animal whose EID number was scanned
